Concert Review: King Parrot – 1865, Southampton
Tuesday 15th September 2026
The 1865 in Southampton had 4 bands for this night. Genre-blending mathcore from ZILF. Spiritual punk/metal from C.O.G (Children of God) and an utterly astonishing set by the underground thrash-groove metal band Sanguis Mortem. After the short stage reset, the quietly creeping tunes of “Absolute Cunt Of A Day” by Aussie comedy musician Kevin Bloody Wilson was the unmistakable sign that King Parrot will enter the stage.
“Bozo” was a good choice for a starting track. While belting the track, Matthew “Youngy” Young invited the (somewhat thin) crowd to get closer to the action on the stage. Yes, the gig was on a Tuesday night but those who decided to show up have been experiencing a brutally energetic performance by King Parrot. Australian grindcore that Bite Your Head Off.

King Parrot’s UK headline tour in support of their album A Young Person’s Guide To King Parrot, with nearly a dozen stops was more that welcomed by the actively involved crowd. Wasn’t a sold-out show but Southampton enjoyed the sharp riffs and even some pits have opened. For me “Get What Ya Given” was a highlight. The whole band played it like was solid gold!

While the lead vocalist Youngy commands the front/centre of the stage with genuine rage, he walked down to the barricades and performed a one-to-one scream your head off with the crowd. This was when my other half and me got a stylish selfie with him.

“Dead End” was another highlight of this show. Fast, dissonant riffs and powerful breakdowns. Between the fast tempo and the flying water bottles, we actually had another epic metal filled night, a pretty special live act.
